Search continues in Murray River for missing university student

The search continues for Bigul Pandit, who disappeared while swimming in the Murray River.

The search for a Nepalese man who went missing while swimming in the Murray River at Albury, New South Wales, is in its fourth day.

Albury and Border Rescue Squad members and police officers returned to Noreuil Park this morning to continue the search for Charles Sturt University economics student Bigul Pandit.

Mr Pandit, 21, was swimming with friends on Wednesday night when he failed to resurface about 7:00pm.

On Thursday, specialist divers were called in to assist in the search but they were unable to find any trace of Mr Pandit.

A police helicopter spent some time scouring a kilometre-long stretch of the river, while members of Roads and Maritime Services have also been assisting.

Mr Pandit was associated with the Baha'i faith and on Thursday night, members of the faith gathered for a community vigil on the banks of the river.

His employer, Gurul Gooman of the Guru Star Cafe in Albury, said he had dinner with Mr Pandit just before the tragedy occurred and had warned him about the dangers of swimming in the river.

"I said the current is very strong and be careful and he said he was a good swimmer," Mr Gooman said.

"He wasn't just a worker he was more like family.

"It is just sad; he left us too early."
