Search continues for woman missing off boat near Cygnet

Members of the SES are searching the shoreline for any sign of the missing woman.

Tasmanian police are conducting an extensive search for a 51-year-old woman who is believed to have fallen from a boat near Cygnet south of Hobart.

The rescue helicopter swept the area around Lymington until about midnight on Friday before returning in the morning.

Today the chopper was joined by three vessels on the water, four police divers and 12 members of the State Emergency Service searching the shoreline.

Inspector David Wiss from Tasmania Police said the police were called at about 7:00pm regarding a woman in a dinghy behaving erratically.

He said by the time the police vessel reached the dinghy there was nobody aboard.

"We will continue to search until every last square inch of that area has been searched, but we have grave concerns for her safety," Inspector Wiss said.
