Search continues for missing boy, 16, who may have fallen into Cheshire river

Emergency services are continuing to search for a missing boy who may have fallen into a river.

The search operation was launched at around 3.50pm yesterday (Monday) after police received reports that the 16-year-old may have fallen into the River Weaver near Frodsham, in Cheshire.

Cheshire Police, the fire service and paramedics were on the scene with a helicopter.

They worked into the early hours of the morning to try and find the teenager, police said.

Today (Tuesday), the searches in the area have resumed.

Police are urging anyone with information to get in touch.

In a statement issued this morning, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "Emergency services are continuing their search for a missing boy in Sutton Weaver.

"At around 3.50pm on Monday 19 July police received reports that a 16-year-old boy may have fallen into the River Weaver near Frodsham.

"Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene and worked into the early hours of the morning to try and locate the teenager.

"Emergency services returned to the scene this morning (Tuesday 20 July) and the searches have resumed.

"Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1041072.

"Further information will be released when available."

The A56 was closed in both directions yesterday but has since reopened.
