The search for missing Queensland fisherman Trent Riley has been called off by his family after 11 days of scouring the Moreton Bay region.

The family of Mr Riley, whose empty tinny was found floating in Brisbane's Moreton Bay on April 14, wound down the search on Sunday after hundreds of people assisted and thousands of dollars were raised.

"You should all be so proud of yourselves," Mr Riley's brother Shannon said on Sunday.

"At the end of the day, guys, life's temporary."

More than $66,000 was raised on GoFundMe for the search and to support Riley's family.

The 26-year-old's small aluminium boat was found empty and motoring in circles off Mud Island, near the Port of Brisbane, at about 3.30pm on Wednesday 14 April.

Mr Riley posted two videos on social media showing calm waters two hours before he went missing.

"That's the last we heard of him, of his posting or interaction," Inspector Mark Mooney said 24 hours after the young man's disappearance.

A search involving 10 vessels and three helicopters was unable to find him and hundreds of people joined a Facebook page dedicated to the search, which featured regular posts about people's efforts to find him as well as offers for support.

Throughout the search, Water Police, Volunteer Marine Rescue, helicopters and volunteer coast guard were deployed.

At the time he went missing Mr Riley was wearing a long-sleeved grey fishing shirt, black jeans, black shoes and a bucket hat.

He is Caucasian, about 183cm tall, with a proportionate build and brown hair.
