Search called off after concerns for welfare of woman on the Downs

Police and ambulance crews were called to the Downs on June 5 following concerns for the welfare of a woman.

Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly before 2pm after being alerted by a member of the public.

Police conducted a two-hour search of the area after receiving reports of a woman climbing railings near Circular Road which overlooks the Portway.

A police spokesperson said the woman may have fallen.

But the woman was not found and the search, which used drones using thermal imaging, was called off at 3.50pm.

What can you do if you feel you are in crisis?

Most people who are thinking of taking their own life have shown warning signs beforehand.

These can include becoming depressed, showing sudden changes in behaviour, talking about wanting to die and feelings of hopelessness.

These feelings do improve and can be treated.
