Emergency services were called to Liverpool's waterfront after reports of a person in distress.
In the early hours of Thursday, a response unit including a search and rescue teams and a marine rescue unit attended the scene on St Nicholas Place.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said a person was seen near the Liver Building, close to the dockside, at around 1.44am.

Officers were able to move the person and emergency service were stood down at 2.21am.
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue spokesperson told the ECHO: "We were called to St. Nicholas Place L3, last night after reports of a person in distress near to the Liver Building, close to the dockside.
"Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) were alerted at 1.44am and on scene at 1.53pm.
"Two fire engines, the search and rescue team and the Marine Rescue Unit aboard Rescue boat Marine Fire One were on scene.
"After the person moved away from the area we were advised by other emergency service colleagues that we could be stood down as our services were no longer required.
"MFRS were on scene until 2.21am."
