Seapoint swimmer dies after getting into difficulty at Dublin beach

A swimmer has died after getting caught in difficulty at a south Dublin beach.

The tragic incident happened at Seapoint on Wednesday just before 1pm.

The man was pulled ashore and administered CPR by a doctor who was also in the water at the beach at the same time.

The Coast Guard, an RNLI lifeboat, and Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics all rushed to the scene, and he was stretchered away to a nearby hospital.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

"Sadly with everyone’s best efforts, the casualty passed away," a Coast Guard statement read.

"Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. May they rest in peace.

"Thank you to all those assisted the swimmer and the local community for their support."
