Sean Strickland knocks out sparring partner with high kick, posts video of it

Sean Strickland has made it publicly known time and time again: He likes beating people up.

The violence he enjoys inflicting isn’t limited to the UFC cage. Strickland (24-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) has built a reputation as someone who likes his sparring matches as to be street fight-like. A frequent poster of balls-to-the-wall striking against sparring partners, Strickland recently had his Instagram account taken down.

On Thursday, he posted a video to a newly-made Instagram account that showed a sparring match against an unidentified opponent at Steel MMA & Fitness in San Diego. With boxing gloves but without head gear, Strickland and his sparring foe went toe-to-toe. The short video clip ended after Strickland landed a left high kick that knocked his sparring partner through the ropes unconscious.

“This was consensual…,” Strickland wrote. “Don’t ban me Instagram….”

In addition to discussing his passion for going hard in sparring, Strickland has also said on multiple occasions he hopes to kill someone in the UFC cage – a notion promotion president Dana White later dispelled.

Strickland, 30, is slated to fight Jack Hermansson in a five-round UFC Fight Night 200 headlining bout Feb. 5 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. He currently rides a five-fight winning streak that includes wins over Uriah Hall, Krzysztof Jotko and Brendan Allen.
