Jessica Andrade’s brief UFC title reign came to an end Saturday when she dropped the strawweight belt to Weili Zhang in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 15.
After claiming the strap from Rose Namajunas in May, Andrade (20-7 MMA, 11-5 UFC) wasted no time trying to rack up her first defense. Zhang (20-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) had other plans, though, and stunned the Brazilian with a 42-second TKO finish to become the UFC’s first Chinese champion.
At just 27, Andrade’s title loss is by no means a crippling blow to her career. She’s got plenty of time to try to work her way back to the top.
