Sean Shelby’s Shoes: What’s next for champ Aljamain Sterling after UFC 288 win?

(ALSO SEE: Sean Shelby’s Shoes: What’s next for Henry Cejudo after UFC 288 loss?)

Aljamain Sterling maintained his position atop arguably the deepest division in the sport Saturday when he defended the bantamweight title against Henry Cejudo in the UFC 288 headliner.

Sterling (23-3 MMA, 15-3 UFC) logged a third consecutive title defense when he edged returning former champ Cejudo (16-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) by split decision at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and inched further to having the most complete resume in the division’s history.

He’ll have the chance to further enhance that resume going forward. His next fight likely is already teed up following an in-cage faceoff with top contender Sean O’Malley.

Is that the right fight to make for 135-pound gold, though? Watch the video above for thoughts and analysis on Sterling’s future after UFC 288.
