Sean Payton unsure whether Dez Bryant re-signs with Saints

Members of the media met with New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton during the annual coaches breakfast at NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, and Payton had a lot on his mind. One of the topics he discussed, briefly, was receiver Dez Bryant. Bryant joined the Saints late in the 2018 season to much fanfare, but was struck down with an Achilles injury at the end of his second day of practice.

Payton acknowledged that he’s been keeping up with Bryant’s progress in returning from injury, but was noncommittal when asked if the Saints intend to re-sign Bryant, replying, “I wouldn’t be able to forecast the future,” for the former Dallas Cowboys superstar.

Larry Holder of the Athletic relayed that reading-of-the-room, commenting that sources he’d spoken with around the owners meetings didn’t expect a second at-bat for Bryant with the Saints. It’s early, and Bryant likely isn’t even cleared to pass a physical, so nothing is certain yet. But it sure looks like Bryant’s cameo with the Saints is already a thing of the past.
