Sean Moore's international future takes another turn after training camp call-up

Sean Moore has been named in a Republic of Ireland Men’s Under-19 homebased assessment day, which takes place in Dublin on Monday ahead of next month's three Elite Round qualifiers.

Speculation has intensified about the Cliftonville forward's international future after the 17-year-old became a regular in Paddy McLaughlin's first team at Solitude.

His impressive displays have not only attracted attention from Premier League clubs with the likes of Brighton Hove and Albion, Everton and West Ham rumoured to be keen on securing his signature, but also has also put him on the radar the FAI, who want to Moore to switch international allegiances from Northern Ireland.

The Belfast Met pupil was named in Northern Ireland Under-18 Schoolboys for this year’s Centenary Shield, where he was due to face the Republic when the two Schoolboy teams clash on March 30.

It looks as though Moore will not be part of the NI set-up now though as he is one of 36 players taking part in the training camp in Dublin on Monday with the group involved in two behind-closed-doors friendlies as Tom Mohan looks at homebased options ahead of the U19 European Championship qualifiers.

Mark Sykes became the first Belfast-born player to play for the Republic of Ireland in 76 years in a 1-0 friendly win over Malta last November having starred previously for Northern Ireland Under-21s prior to switching allegiance in 2020.
