Sean McVay won’t name starting QB yet with John Wolford day-to-day

Sean McVay will have a decision to make at quarterback once again this week with both Jared Goff and John Wolford banged up. Goff is less than two weeks removed from thumb surgery, and Wolford suffered a neck injury in Saturday’s win over the Seahawks.

McVay said on Sunday that Wolford is considered day-to-day, clarifying that the injury was indeed a stinger. Wolford was taken to the hospital Saturday as a precaution to rule out a potentially serious injury.

With the status of each quarterback unknown right now, McVay said he won’t name a starter just yet. He’ll wait to see how Goff and Wolford progress throughout the week before making a decision.

McVay never named a starter publicly before the wild-card game against Seattle, using it as somewhat of a competitive advantage by forcing the Seahawks to prepare for both quarterbacks. It wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if McVay takes a similar approach before facing the Packers.

He did admit Sunday that while Goff may not have been in any pain, it did impact the way he played. Goff didn’t suffer any setbacks coming out of the game, so his status remains unchanged.

Surprisingly, the Rams only had Goff and Wolford active against the Seahawks, with Blake Bortles being a healthy scratch. Next week, that is likely to change.

The Rams will visit the Packers on Saturday afternoon at 4:35 p.m. ET. Green Bay had a first-round bye after earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a 13-3 record.
