Sean McVay lays out plan for virtual offseason program, which began Monday

The Los Angeles Rams were supposed to be in the early stages of offseason workouts this week, but the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a change of plans. The NFL canceled all organized team activities as we typically know them, forcing teams to transition go virtual meetings until things return to normal.

The Rams were among the teams that began their virtual offseason program on Monday, which consists of meetings over video conference and classroom work for players. Sean McVay gave an update on how he will run things for the next nine weeks, laying out the team’s plans for this unorthodox offseason.

The Rams got off to a good start on Monday with perfect attendance from players during the initial meetings. It doesn’t take as much for players to jump on a video call from home as it would for them to attend a workout at the facility, but it’s still a good sign that everyone participated.

The Rams’ roster currently sits at 87 players, but not all of them were eligible to participate in Monday’s initial session. McVay said rookies won’t be able to take part until May 11, which is when the rookie program begins.

The Rams added 29 rookies over the weekend, nine of which were drafted and the rest signed after the conclusion of the draft as free agents.

McVay won’t be the only one speaking to players during these meetings, of course. Positional coaches and other assistants will also take part, as will two other coaches from the L.A. market. Clippers coach Doc Rivers will address the team at some point this week, while Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is on McVay’s list as another possibility.
