Sean McVay: Clarity on Aaron Donald, Matthew Stafford futures will come ‘sooner than later’

There’s a very real possibility that the Los Angeles Rams will be searching for a new head coach this offseason. Sean McVay is undecided on whether he’ll be back on the sideline next season, declining to give a definitive answer when asked about it after Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks.

That could cause a trickle-down effect with the rest of the roster, specifically at the top. Aaron Donald weighed retirement last year and said he wouldn’t have returned if McVay retired. Matthew Stafford suffered a neck injury this season which has some wondering if he’ll call it a career – despite Stafford saying he isn’t retiring.

McVay was asked whether Donald and Stafford will be back in 2023, but he couldn’t say for sure.

“You’ll have to talk to … those are things that we haven’t even had a chance … I mean, we just finished up the season so we’ll work through all that kind of stuff and you’ll have clarity on that sooner than later, I’m sure,” he said.

Donald and Stafford both have big paydays coming at the beginning of the new league year, which is in early March. Both Donald and Stafford will have to decide what they want to do before that check comes due, and simultaneously, the Rams have a decision to make with Stafford – they could move on before $57 million becomes guaranteed on March 19.

Needless to say, there are a lot of questions surrounding the Rams as they begin their offseason.
