Sean McVay etched his name in the record books on Sunday with the Rams’ 38-22 win over the Texans, breaking a mark previously held by Bill Belichick. Coming into this week, McVay was 42-0 as a head coach when his team held a lead at halftime, an incredible start to his career.
The Rams led 24-0 over the Texans and held on to win, giving McVay his 43rd consecutive win when leading at halftime. That’s one better than Belichick’s record for the most consecutive wins when holding a halftime lead.
The Rams have had some close calls during that stretch but they’ve never blown a halftime lead in the four-plus years McVay has been their head coach. It’s not a record that will be easy for another coach to break, either.
There were some questions about hiring a 30-year-old head coach when the Rams brought in McVay in 2017, but he’s made all of those doubters look foolish. In his career, he now owns a 50-22 regular-season record as a head coach.
