Leeds United were reportedly interested in signing Wigan Athletic midfielder Sean McGurk over the summer.
McGurk endeared himself to Leeds fans on Sunday after he issued his support to Joe Gelhardt - who moved from the Latics to Elland Road in the summer - as the 18-year-old forward scored twice against Middlesbrough's under-23s on Sunday afternoon.
The Whites under-23s won 4-2 away from home as Mark Jackson's side raced to a 4-0 lead at half-time of the clash. Gelhardt bagged a quick-fire brace for the youngsters as they continued their fine form this season.
McGurk quote tweeted a clip of Gelhardt's second goal of the match, as the teenager found himself free on the edge of the box and fired home a long-range strike on his left foot.
The Wigan and Leeds-linked midfielder simply tweeted: "Joffyyyy", followed by a flame and clapping hands emoji.
Leeds fans, when seeing this tweet, put the two together and came out with some definitive conclusions. One supporter replied to McGurk, saying: "This is where its happening pal. See you in the summer, yeah?"
Another said: "Come join him." and a fellow Whites supporter added: "When you signing mate?".
This tweet may not have given away where McGurk is going to be playing his football next season, but his close relationship with Gelhardt could certainly have an impact on any decision.
If the teenage midfielder does follow in his former team-mate's footsteps, then he could be another young star added to the pool of talent at Thorp Arch.
