Sean McDermott: Jon Jones should’ve been thrown out for hit on Josh Allen

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott wasn’t happy with the hit that put his quarterback out of the game.

Josh Allen left Sunday’s matchup against the New England Patriots in the fourth quarter after enduring a helmet-to-helmet hit from Jonathon Jones. Allen was scrambling on a third down play and Jones’ hit was in attempt to prevent the first down.

Jones remained in the game and Allen was replaced by Matt Barkley. McDermott was upset with the fact that Jones wasn’t ejected and his frustration was apparent.

Jones spoke with reporters after the game and said that he had no intent on hurting Allen — saying that he planned on checking in on him.

It appeared that Jones was simply trying to stop Allen’s forward momentum, so that he could prevent the first down. The hit didn’t appear to be malicious, and that’s the call that was made on the field. Senior Vice President of Officiating Al Riveron explained why Jones wasn’t ejected from the game.

It’s likely that Jones will obtain a fine from the NFL for this hit.
