Sean McDermott dismisses question on psychological toll of coaching vs. Belichick

The New England Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills with a novel game plan in brutal weather. But Bills coach Sean McDermott wasn’t ready to toss around credit to Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

McDermott was asked about the psychological toll of having Belichick on the opposing sideline — particularly as the Patriots effectively ran the ball again and again. New England finished with 46 carries for 222 yards and a touchdown but just two completions for 19 yards.

“Let’s not give more credit than we need to give credit to Bill Belichick in this one,” McDermott said. “With all due respect, it’s not a Bill Belichick-type thing. It’s ‘What are you doing with the opportunities you’ve got?'”

McDermott said he felt like his team was playing sloppy football.

The Patriots took the No. 1 spot in the AFC on Monday night. They’ll head into a bye, but have the Bills in Week 16.
