Sean McComb weighs up options as he targets title tilt

Sean McComb hopes another win on Friday night will tee up a title shot for the Belfast boxer.

McComb returns to action on the big Conlan Boxing bill at the Ulster Hall when he faces teak-tough Scotsman Ronnie Clark.

The 29-year-old also believes super-lightweight is where his best ambitions lie, after briefly stepping down to lightweight to challenge for the Commonwealth title.

That quest ended in defeat to Gavin Gwynne, but McComb insists he has moved on from that loss, a point emphasised by an impressive win last time out against Vicente Martin Rodriguez at August's Feile.

"The defeat was just a wee bump in the road, and I learned loads from it.," McComb told Belfast Live.

"Looking back, 2021 was a year of misery with Covid and boxing shows getting cancelled and boxers not getting opportunities.

"I have been very lucky in getting fights even after the loss.

"But this has been a great year for me; in life, in business, in boxing, and I learned loads coming off the back of that loss.

"I have put it behind me and I don't even think about it anymore. It hasn't affected my confidence and my boxing ability."

And McComb believes another title shot is within grasp.

He added: "So from here I will push on, and I am really hoping to get a title fight after Friday night.

"Next fight I want a title fight, and I want to box at super-lightweight. I feel comfortable in training, and I have the size, the speed, the skills, I have got it all.

"And I have boxed right up at super-lightweight up to my 12th fight and I am more than capable. I was in against good opponents back then."
