Sean Mannion signs with Vikings for slightly less than Blake Bortles’ deal

The Los Angeles Rams found a new backup quarterback for Jared Goff this offseason when they signed Blake Bortles, who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sean Mannion was set to be a free agent and with no reports of contract talks, it appeared the Rams were moving on.

Bortles signed a very team-friendly deal with Los Angeles, earning just $1 million for one season. Given the low value of Bortles’ contract, many believed Mannion would earn more with his next team. Well, that turned out to be incorrect.

On Sunday, Mannion signed with the Vikings, inking a one-year deal. According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Mannion’s contract is for $900,000.

Mannion showed very little progression and development with the Rams, but some thought he might see a significant pay raise after earning less than $1 million each year on his rookie contract. Instead of earning high-end backup quarterback money, he remains one of the cheaper QBs in the league.

In his career with the Rams, he played 10 games. He completed 33 of 53 passes for 258 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
