Sean Mannion reached out to Case Keenum before signing with Vikings

For two times in the last three seasons, the Vikings could have a former Ram as their backup quarterback.

Case Keenum entered 2017 as the team’s back up to Sam Bradford after two seasons with the Rams. Of course, Keenum had a career year, leading the Vikings to an NFC Championship.

The Vikings chose to sign Kirk Cousins over bringing Keenum back.

Now, Sean Mannion hopes to be Cousins’ backup in Minnesota after four seasons with the Rams. He was teammates with Keenum there for two of those seasons. Before signing with the Vikings, Mannion reached out to Keenum, presumably to find out what type of team the Vikings were.

“I did (reach out) a little bit,” Mannion said via the Pioneer Press. “That was kind of right after he had been traded (from Denver to Washington), so things were kind of changing for him, so I didn’t want to bug him too much. But, honestly, my wife texted his wife Kimberly.’’

It seems like Keenum, and his wife had positive things to say about the Vikings considering Mannion signed with the Vikings.

Now we’ll see if he can beat out Kyle Sloter for the QB2 spot.
