Sean Longstaff responds to Man Utd transfer speculation with honest admission

Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff admits there is little he can do amid continued speculation linking him with a transfer to Manchester United .

Longstaff has been monitored by United this summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a fan of the 21-year-old.

It’s understood that United hoped to have Longstaff on board before the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East.

However, upon preparing an opening £20million bid for Longstaff, United learned that Newcastle ’s valuation was more than double that figure - at a whopping £50million.

As such, the move never came to fruition, but United still hold an interest.

Speaking about the transfer talk surrounding him in recent months, Longstaff said: "Obviously, I’m still young and getting used to all that side of it. There’s nothing you can do.

"It’s in the hands of other people now. Like I said before, I’m fully focused on being back fit for the start of the Premier League season.

"To have your name mentioned with those top clubs is obviously great, but, for me, it’s about working as hard as I can for Newcastle and getting back.

"I’m trying to focus on football. The stuff off the pitch isn’t what you play for, you can get too caught up in it."

Longstaff made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies last term.

He has previously spent loan spells at Kilmarnock and Blackpool.

United are currently prioritising moves for both Leicester defender Harry Maguire and Juventus forward Paulo Dybala.
