Sean Longstaff reflects on Newcastle United's training ground crisis: 'You couldn’t write it, really'

Sean Longstaff has urged Newcastle United's young guns to grasp their chance in the FA Cup third-round replay against Rochdale.

It's over 12 months since Longstaff progressed to the first-team picture at United with youngsters such as Thomas Allan, Elias Sorensen and Ludwig Francillette in contention for the clash with Rochdale on Tuesday night.

A brutal injury list will see Steve Bruce forced into changes again at St James' Park.

Longstaff said: "You couldn’t write it, really.

"That’s what you’ve got a squad for.

"It’s great for the young lads - hopefully, there’s a chance for them round the corner."

Bruce has refused to just sign players for the sake of it.

He added: "I will not just bring in players that don’t make us any better.

"We will not just see people coming in because we have 10, 12 players injured.

"Who knows, in two or three weeks, we might have them all back, and then what do you do with the ones you bring in?”
