Steve Bruce paired Sean and Matty Longstaff together in midfield against Leicester City at St James’ Park this afternoon.
The Magpies went in against the Foxes with the majority of the side that held Liverpool to a goal-less draw in the final game of 2021.
It meant that Joelinton and Callum Wilson again spearheaded the attack and with Isaac Hayden suspended, Bruce recalled Sean Longstaff after sitting out recent matches.
But Jonjo Shelvey was again left on the bench.
Bruce had said before the game: "We have another tough game, they are a very tough side Leicester so “we will have to be at our best again.
They are a very good team and that's why they are healthily sitting where they are.
“They just missed out on the top four last year.
“So they have been a very good side for a couple of years."
