Sean Longstaff backed to succeed at Everton under 'unbelievable' Rafa Benitez

Former Premier League stopper Paddy Kenny believes Sean Longstaff would would a huge success at Everton amid transfer speculation linking him with the Toffees this summer.

With ex- Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez at the helm, Longstaff has been tipped to make the move to Merseyside this summer.

Benitez was the man who handed Longstaff his senior debut in 2018 after including him in his squad for his final season.

Longstaff made a great first impression after he broke into the Magpies starting xi. He was on Manchester United's wanted list in 2019 and at the height of the interest from Old Trafford, Red Devils coach Michael Carrick even blocked questions on the midfielder when asked how he was progressing at an event at Wallsend Boys Club.

There may have been no serious offer for the academy graduate, but it comes as no surprise that Benitez sees him as a possible target this summer.

The Magpies midfielder has found himself on the fringe of things under Steve Bruce and the club is expected to make a decision on him given the recent arrival of Joe Willock.

Kenny now believes that the fact that the Spaniard has given his 'seal of approval to Longstaff is proof of his credentials'.

Kenny told Football Insider: “He’s definitely a really good player and I’m sure he’d do well there.

“He and his brother, Matty, broke into that team early and he is still quite young. There have been other big teams interested in him in the past as well.

“Benitez is an unbelievable manager, so if he’s interested in you then you know you’re a good player.

“He might not be the biggest marquee signing ever but he could definitely do a good job there if they do manage to get this one done.“
