Sean Lock died after 'courageous' secret battle with lung cancer says pal Bill Bailey

Beloved comic Sean Lock died from lung cancer, his pal Bill Bailey confirmed.

The comedian's family confirmed his passing earlier this week at the tragic age of 58 and his friend Bill has now revealed that Sean passed away after a secret battle with lung cancer, which he was diagnosed with a "few years ago".

Bill told ITV News: "He had been diagnosed with lung cancer a few years ago and it was at the time quite a blow, particularly when it was quite advanced.

"We've tried to make the most of the last few years. We spent a lot of time together and went on trips together. And he's continued to work.

"He's amazingly courageous and tough individual who was mentally strong throughout the whole time. I'm just grateful for the time we have had together."

Sean has received many glowing tributes from those on the comedy circuit and Bill is hardly surprised as he praised his late friend's fearless nature and "determination".

"A lot of comics are talking about the fact that he inspired them to become comedians. He was the one that gave them the strength and courage to carry on as comedians - it's a tough business," he added.

"He was fearless and determined and that's what gave them strength."

Sean's tragic passing was confirmed by his agent earlier this week.

A statement from Off The Kerb Productions shared: "It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Sean Lock.

"He died at home from cancer, surrounded by his family.

"Sean was one of Britain's finest comedians, his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work, marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy.

"Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children. Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

"We kindly request that the privacy of his family and children is respected at this difficult time."

Fellow comedian Harry Hill also revealed how Sean had "struggled" with his illness and had spent his last few months in a hospice.

"He struggled with [the illness] – he went through all the same emotions anyone in that position would experience. But he was stoical about it," Harry - who used to be a doctor - said.

"Because he was so bright, he read up on all the latest treatments. He knew much more about that side of medicine than I ever did."

Tributes have continued to flood in for the late comedian, who was best known by fans for appearing on 8 Out of 10 Cats.
