Former Burnley manager Sean Dyche has revealed how a decision when he was coming up through the youth academy at Nottingham Forest had a big impact on his career.
The former centre-half started his career at Forest, coming up through the youth sides at the club throughout his teenage years. He eventually left without making a first-team appearance for the club but went on to have a successful career as a player.
Dyche joined Chesterfield on a free transfer in 1990 and went on to make a total of 215 career appearances up until he retired in 2007. He also played for the likes of Bristol City, Northampton Town, Millwall and Watford.

Since his retirement, the former centre-back has carved a successful career in management - most notably, leading and establishing Burnley in the Premier League.
They parted ways towards the end of last season, but the manager has been linked with a return to the top division with AFC Bournemouth. His name has also been mentioned with Leicester City with Brendan Rodgers under pressure at the King Power Stadium.
Looking back at his time at Forest, Dyche revealed that Brian Clough’s former assistant manager Archie Gemmill recommended a change of position for him. “People probably wouldn't believe that I was a tricky little midfielder," Dyche told Kammy & Ben’s Proper Football Podcast.
"I went to Nottingham Forest at 16. I was about five-foot-seven and 10 stone.
“Within a year, I was six-foot-one and 12 stone. Archie Gemmill was like, 'you're playing centre-half. End of'."
Gemmill was assistant manager at Forest between the years of 1975 and 1993, under the guidance of Clough. He later joined Rotherham as manager where he spent almost two years, before leading Scotland’s under 19 side between 2005 and 2006 and 2007 and 2009.
