Sean Dyche provides updates on key Burnley men amid latest injury news ahead of Chelsea clash

Sean Dyche has confirmed that Burnley striker Ashley Barnes is set to see a specialist over a persistent groin injury and is likely to miss the clash with Chelsea on Saturday.

The Clarets visit Stamford Bridge this weekend, with Burnley looking to end a three-match losing streak in the Premier League.

But Dyche has some injury concerns for the game, with Barnes and fellow forward Jay Rodriguez both doubts for the clash with Chelsea   in west London.

Barnes, who has scored six Premier League goals for the Clarets this season, has been playing with a groin problem in recent weeks, but Dyche aid he is now due to see a specialist in a bid to get him fully fit.

"He has been trying to get through a period with an over-use injury, so that will get checked out," Dyche said.

"He's been soldiering on with it, but it has really affected him in the last few games.

"I had a chat with him and said he's put his lot in for us and tried to carry on, but we have got to get to the bottom of it."

As such, Barnes is set to miss the game at Stamford Bridge, while Burnley will also be without Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in the FA Cup clash with Peterborough United.

"The good news is that it's not as serious as it could have been," said Dyche.

"It should settle down quickly."

Meanwhile, Dyche confirmed that Rodriguez and defender Phil Bardsley have both missed training this week with illness, and are now in a race to be fit for the game against Chelsea.

Defender Ben Gibson is back in full training following a groin injury, but he has not featured since August and is lacking match fitness.
