Sean Dyche on Burnley tactics and formation ahead of Everton visit

Sean Dyche has hinted at how Burnley could set up when they host Everton at Turf Moor on Saturday.

The Blues will be heading into the match looking for a win to take them into the international break after a shaky start to their 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

Therefore, any tactical advantage that Marco Silva can gain by reading into what Dyche has said or how the Clarets might play could be vital to helping Everton achieve victory.

Burnley, in part due to an injury to Jack Cork, switched from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 last time out against Aston Villa which saw Ashley Westwood sitting in midfield behind Dwight McNeil and Jeff Hendrick while Ashley Barnes and Jay Rodriguez played as wide strikers with Chris Wood through the middle.

It helped the Turf Moor side overcome a disjointed first half display and twice come from behind to earn a draw in the Midlands.

And, although Burnley are likely to revert to a central strike pairing against Everton on Saturday, Dyche was still pleased with the tactical switch.

"It calmed the game down. I don't want to be too big time about it because the players deliver it," Dyche said.

"We haven't done loads on it because I have let it naturally unfold but we did it in pre-season and we did it at Brighton.

"We know Jay can play off one side and we know that Barnesy can do it, he played a lot of football coming off the left for Brighton.

"We know it is there and we can use it when we need it.

"We know Dwight can come inside and Jeff (Hendrick) certainly can. Westy or Corky can play in the deeper role.

"The thing I was pleased with was that it was whether we locked down their sitting midfielder or we played with one and we decided to leave theirs and go and get the ball.

"I was pleased with that I thought it was quite evident that we started playing, probing and calming the game down with the ball wile still trying to affect things. The players deserve credit."
