Sean Dyche offers no assurance on James Tarkowski’s Burnley future amid West Ham interest

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has described James Tarkowski as a “fantastic professional” amid interest from West Ham United.

David Moyes’ side are understood to be keen on the idea of signing the 28-year-old given his contract at Turf Moor is set to expire at the end of the season.

Speaking ahead of Burnley’s game with Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, Dyche offered no assurances as to the defender’s future long-term future.

“Especially in modern football, contracts are a different ball-game,” he said.

“Twenty years ago players signed a contract and six months later, they’re sold.

“All I would say about James is that he’s a fantastic professional, he has been since he’s been here and he continues to be. His form this season has been absolutely top drawer.”

Dyche also spoke of his surprise that the former Brentford star continues to be overlooked by the England set-up.

“I’m still scratching my head about the England set-up but that’s one of the challenges for Gareth (Southgate) who has a lot of good players he has to pick from.

“That’s my focus with him and he keeps doing the business.”
