Sean Dyche has handed Ellis Simms an opportunity to impress in the Merseyside Derby this evening. The striker has struggled for game time since returning from a loan spell at the Stadium of Light, which prompted speculation of a possible return to Wearside.
Frank Lampard was keen to give the young striker an opportunity to impress, but their poor run of results saw the former Blues boss come under increased pressure. It would cost his his job, casting more doubt on Simms' future.
Sean Dyche has since taken over the reins at Goodison Park but left Simms on the bench in his opening game in charge against Arsenal. The Toffees would run out 1-0 winners against the league leaders, but the former Sunderland striker will start against Liverpool tonight.

When asked his thinking behind the decision, Dyche told Sky Sports: "Ellis has got a physical presence and good energy to his game. Neal, it’s a tight decision, Neal’s slightly more experienced, we know that, but see how he fares.
"Young lad, great occasion for him and go out there and play with freedom."
