Sean Cox to return to Anfield this Sunday to watch beloved Liverpool play Manchester City

Sean Cox will return to Anfield this Sunday to see his beloved Liverpool take on Manchester City in their table-topping Premier League showdown.

The Dunboyne native was assaulted outside the ground before the Reds' Champions League semi-final tie with Roma back in April 2018.

Sean, 53, and a father of three, was attacked  and suffered life-changing injuries as he made his way to the ground.

After almost 18 months of treatment in Ireland, Sean is currently continuing his recovery at a rehabilitation centre in Sheffield.

And his wife Martina told Newstalk that attending this weekend's game will help put a smile on her husband's face as he continues his long road back to full health.

The news comes as scouse comedian John Bishop will host a star-studded comedy show on January 10, in a bid to raise funds for the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust.

Bishop will be joined on stage at Dublin's 3Arena by a stellar line-up, including: Michael McIntyre, Tommy Tiernan, Dara O’Briain, Deirdre O’Kane, Joanne McNally, Jason Byrne and Des Bishop.

The Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust was set up to raise money to fund the rehabilitation of the Co Meath man, who was left with life-changing injuries following a horrific and unprovoked attack in April 2018.
