Sean Cox attack was the 'lowest point' of Jurgen Klopp's time at Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that the attack that left Sean Cox fighting for his life was the 'lowest point' of his tenure as Reds boss.

Klopp who has guided them to a Champions League trophy and currently has them top of the Premier League, was speaking ahead of Cox's first trip to Anfield since the attack.

He said: "When it happened it was my lowest point at Liverpool, something like this should not happen around a football game.

"I hope to see him before the game, I really want to. We don't just sing You'll Never Walk Alone, we live that."

The brave dad-of-three and his family will be guests of the club, 18 months after he was attacked by Roma supporters before the clubs' Champions League semi-final first-leg meeting in April 2018.

Klopp has shared his delight at the news, revealing he hopes see Mr Cox on the day of the game if possible, saying: “It’s great. I hope I can see him but I’m not sure if it’s possible.

“It’s just wonderful. It’s been a tough 18-months for the family, for himself and his friends, now coming back (to Anfield) and that he wants to be back, that’s really nice.

“I’m sure our supporters will make it a really special occasion for him and if I have the opportunity around the game, I would really like to see him."
