Sean Connery's brother passes away seven months after James Bond star's death

Sean Connery's younger brother Neil has passed away, just seven months after the James Bond star's death.

Neil, who was also an actor, passed away aged 82, following a long illness.

During his time on screen, Neil appeared in spoofs based on James Bond, after Sean made his name playing the secret agent.

He starred in the 007 spoof Operation Kid Brother, in which he played Bond's brother, and 1969 movie The Body Stealers.

Neil also featured in an episode of Taggert in 1989.

Before following Sean into the acting world, Neil was working as a plasterer.

Sean shared his thoughts on his brother lampooning his James Bond role in 1967 film Operation Kid Brother, saying: "People have said that he doesn't like what I'm doing, but I think he realises I'm no danger to his career.

"He's an established actor, and I've seen all his films and enjoyed every one of them...He wished me luck, and I know he's interested in how I make out."

Neil said previously that one piece of advice given to him by Sean, who died last year aged 90, was: "Take it easy, make sure everything is in black-and-white before you sign it and ensure it's to your advantage."

Neil's friend Steve Begg confirmed the sad news on Facebook, writing: "My good friend and Edinburgh drinking buddy Neil Connery passed away early this morning, I am sad to report.

He continued: "He considered me a lackluster challenge when it came to the drinking stakes but I considered him with respect.

"He looked and sounded like his big bro so going out with him was always interesting to say the least. Miss you Neil."
