Craig Levein recalled how Hollywood legend Sir Sean Connery rang him up after he was appointed as Scotland boss...but he hung up on 007.
The man synonymous with playing MI5 agent James Bond and arguably Edinburgh’s most famous son passed away today at the age of 90.
Connery was always a big supporter of Scottish sport, famously roaring on Andy Murray from the royal box at Wimbledon and at various Grand Slam tournaments.
So when Levein landed the top job in Scottish football, the actor was only too happy to wish him all the best, even if the former Hearts manager needed some convincing.
“About two weeks into the job, I got a phone call at home from somebody saying it was Sean Connery,” he recalled on BBC Scotland.
“Of course, I thought it was a wind up so I hung up!
“The phone call came back in again and he said to me that he got cut off, and I thought ‘that sounds awful like him,’ and it was!
“He’d phoned to wish me all the best.
“I had a long chat with him and he was different class, he really was.”
