Séamus McEnaney to stay on as Monaghan senior football manager for 2022 season

Séamus McEnaney will remain in charge of the Monaghan senior football team for a third season, the Monaghan county board confirmed.

McEnaney was reinstated as manager for the 2022 season by the Monaghan county board following a management meeting on Wednesday night.

In a short statement, the Monaghan county board said: "Following a meeting last night, Monaghan GAA have re-ratified Séamus McEnaney and his backroom team as our Senior Management Team."

In his second stint as manager following a spell in charge from 2004 to 2010, McEnaney has operated with a backroom team made up of Donie Buckley, Peter Donnelly, Conor Laverty, David McCague and Ray Boyne.

Monaghan GAA's confirmation of the re-ratification of McEnaney's backroom team in addition to the man at the helm would suggest the highly sought-after Donie Buckley will remain with the Ulstermen through the 2022 season.

There was plenty of action for McEnaney's men in this year's championship, with the Farney County progressing to a showpiece Ulster SFC final against eventual All-Ireland winners Tyrone at Croke Park.

Monaghan lost out on the day by a single point as Tyrone kept them at bay on their way to a fourth All-Ireland success.
