Seamus Coleman sent uplifting message to GAA star before kidney transplant

Ireland captain Seamus Coleman sent an uplifting message to former Westmeath footballer John Egan before his recent kidney transplant.

Egan was diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy 15 years ago and battled with kidney problems throughout his playing career.

After retiring in 2018, Egan went on the transplant list and had a successful operation this week.

Egan said of the transplant: "On Monday this week I received a lifesaving kidney from my friend and father-in-law Ollie.

"Both myself, Ollie and the kidney are all doing well. Thanks to everyone who has reached out over the last few years and shown support. I really appreciate it."

Egan also revealed that prior to his operation he got a message of support from Everton captain Coleman.

In the video message Coleman says: "Hi John, it's Seamus Coleman here from Everton Football Club.

"I just wanted to send you a message here to say hello, I hope you're doing well. I'm aware that you've got your operation coming up soon, so I wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you and I hope your operation goes well.

"Stay strong and you'll be back fighting fit in no time. I know you're a big Everton fan so I've got your address and I'll send on signed Everton shirt. I hope that will lift your spirits somewhat.

"I'm sure in no time you'll be back kicking your wides for Athlone again soon. All the very best John, and again, good luck."
