Seamus Coleman injury latest as Carlo Ancelotti readies new Everton recruit

Ben Godfrey is braced to make his full Everton debut this weekend with Seamus Coleman a major doubt for the trip to Southampton.

Coleman was forced out of the Merseyside derby on Saturday after just over half an hour with a hamstring problem and was replaced by £20m Godfrey.

Everton have yet to provide any detailed update on the fitness of the club captain - simply saying his scheduled return is "unknown".

But given the nature of the injury he sustained, he is a serious doubt for Sunday's game at St Mary's.

Jonjoe Kenny is believed to be making good progress in his recovery from the ankle injury he picked up against West Ham in last month's Carabao Cup.

However, it is not yet certain when he is due back in full training and in contention to be picked by Carlo Ancelotti.

And so Godfrey is readying himself for a full debut this weekend with Ancelotti left impressed by his debut performance in a position he had not filled since the early days of his professional career.

The Blues take on Saints on Sunday afternoon, in a 2pm kick off.
