Seamus Coleman earns rave reviews as Everton thrash West Brom

Seamus Coleman has added to Stephen Kenny's Ireland selection dilemma after the Everton captain starred in their 5-2 thrashing of West Brom.

Tottenham's Matt Doherty was preferred to Ireland skipper Coleman at right-back in recent Nations League clashes by new boss Kenny.

But the 31-year-old starred for the Toffees today on his 250th Premier League appearance, a week on from Everton's defeat of Spurs as Carlo Ancelotti's side start the season strongly.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit a hat-trick and new star signing James Rodriguez was also among the goals for Ancelotti's men having opened the scoring.

Toffees fans heaped praise on Coleman on social media, with one saying:" Seamus Coleman looked like Seamus Coleman from about 5 years back today. So much more free, confident, taking players on.

"Ancelotti’s backing of him playing a part. You could argue one of the best bargains in the history of the premier league. £60,000 and played 10+ years."

Another fan astutely pointed out: "At £60,000 Seamus Coleman has cost Everton a whopping £240 per league appearance, having played his 250th league game today."

Another commented: "Let’s talk about how good Seamus Coleman has been in the opening two games. Like a new player."

Ancelotti singled out Rodriguez for praise after the game, saying: "He scored his first goal in the Premier League, this is the most important part.

"It was the key goal of the game. He scored a fantastic goal and a fantastic assist in the second half.

"He is comfortable with the team and everything is OK. In this moment he is using his quality.

"This is the quality I saw at Madrid and the same quality I saw at Bayern.

"The quality of James makes him play easy. His football is not so complicated because when he gets space he likes to use his quality on passes and when he has no space and is under pressure he tries to play simple.

"This is what every player has to do: use quality when there is space and play simple when there is no space."
