A wounded grey seal found with a frisbee embedded in its neck has been rescued on a Norfolk beach.
Rescuers had to wait until the 125kg marine mammal had become weakened by its injuries before they could move in with a net and then surgically remove the plastic toy.
This is the third in a series of seals to have been found in the same condition along the same stretch of coastline.
The previous seal was rescued in December and is still in the care of the RSPCA due to the severity of her injury.
This most recent incident follows a report from the RSPCA that found a fivefold increase in cases of plastic waste affecting seals between 2015 and 2018.
Friends of Horsey Seals – who were involved in the rescue mission – have named the animal after Sir David Attenborough in honour of the broadcaster’s campaign against plastic waste.
