Seahawks wrap up successful rookie minicamp

The Seattle Seahawks got their first look at the rookie roster over the weekend and have now wrapped up the three-day minicamp.

Seattle selected 11 players in this year’s NFL draft and signed a dozen undrafted free agents to compete for positions.

“We really had a really fun weekend watching these guys do the thing and show where they fit in and where they have a chance to try to figure into this roster,” coach Pete Carroll said Sunday. “Saw really good stuff from the draft picks. We’re really pleased with the way they learned and picked things up. Their conditioning level was adequate for this work right now.

“We’ve got a ways to go, but they reported in pretty good shape.”

Seattle hosted 68 total participants in the camp, including numerous tryout players. Contact on the field was prohibited, but Carroll and his staff were still able to get a feel for the competition going forward.

Unfortunately for the Seahawks, two of their receivers – draft picks Gary Jennings Jr. and John Ursua – were sidelined with hamstring injuries.

“But, everybody else did real nice stuff and it was very competitive as much as we can be under the rules that we have,” Carroll concluded. “And we learned a lot.”
