Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin recovering from sports hernia surgery

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin played through a number of injuries in 2018 and is now paying the price this offseason.

Baldwin has undergone three surgeries since the end of the year, the most recent a sports hernia procedure in April.

Speaking to reporters at his Ben’s Fund charity dinner Thursday night, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said Baldwin is on the mend.

“That’s a process we are still working through,” Schneider said, via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “He is recovering from that right now and we will see where it goes. . . . He’s a tough guy, though. If anybody can recover from surgeries like this, it’s Doug.”

Schneider did not provide any timeline for Baldwin’s return or confirm whether or not he would be ready to go come training camp at the end of the summer. The current expectation is Baldwin will sit out for at least the offseason workouts.

With Baldwin’s availability uncertain, it’s not surprising the Seahawks are taking a look at a number of wide receiver prospects in this year’s NFL draft class.

Arizona State’s N’Keal Harry was the most recent to visit, but without a second-round selection this year, Seattle will have to find a way to recoup its missing pick to snag a top receiver in April.
