Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf makes PFF’s top 25 players under 25 list

The Seahawks are a bit short on stars at the moment, having traded away their franchise quarterback to the Broncos. After cutting their future Hall of Fame middle linebacker, the last remnants of their all-time-great defense are now also gone. That doesn’t leave much in the cupboard as far as players they can build a team around – but there is one big exception to the rule.

Wide receiver D.K. Metcalf was already the most gifted athlete on the roster. Now that Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner are out of the picture, he’s also the best player on the team. Metcalf has also not even reached his prime yet. He’s made PFF’s annual list of the top 25 players under 25, coming in at No. 10.

“Metcalf doesn’t have the overall stats of some other receivers on this list, but him being in the top 10 is based on his pure dominance when targeted. After recording a 67.9 grade as a rookie, he has rung in at over 80.0 in each of the past two years. His 29 touchdowns over the past three seasons are fifth-most in the league, as are his 22 touchdowns over the past two years. That part of his game is only getting stronger, and even with a downgrade at quarterback in Seattle this year, Metcalf is a threat to convert and score on any play.”

Metcalf is coming off a brilliant 2021 season that saw him post a team-high 12 touchdowns despite playing through a foot injury. He’s entering the final year of his rookie contract and is expected to sign an extension that will make him one of the highest-paid skill players in the league.
