Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett will play more than slot this year

With Doug Baldwin officially gone from the Seattle Seahawks roster, most assumed Tyler Lockett would be taking the reins at the slot position.

While Lockett will be tasked with some of the duties, his responsibilities will extend across the field.

Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer explained the plan to the media following Tuesday’s open OTA.

“We’re going to move him around, I think you have to move him around,” Schottenheimer said. “That’s where these guys – again in year two – they have learned the system so much better you can move guys around.”

Lockett isn’t the only option for Seattle in the slot or at any other receiver position. The Seahawks selected three players in the NFL draft and have high expectations for returners like Jaron Brown.

The ability to incorporate other receivers across the field allows Seattle to use Lockett and still maintain an element of surprise.

“The best weapon for us is when they don’t know where Tyler is going to be,” Schottenheimer continued. “So we’ll move him around. He can do so many things so well. He sees the game instinctively so well, he’s a hard matchup.”
