Seahawks waive TE Tyrone Swoopes with injury settlement

The Seattle Seahawks waived tight end Tyrone Swoopes off the injured reserve and gave him an injury settlement, making him a free agent capable of signing with any team.

The details of the injury settlement are unknown at this time, but this could clear him up to return to Seattle down the line if the two sides want to pursue a reunion.

Swoopes was placed on the injured reserve on August 3rd after suffering an injury during the preseason, which put him in a walking boot. He ended up reverting to the injured reserve, and now gets a chance to explore other opportunities.

The 24-year-old signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent after an accomplished college career as a quarterback at Texas. He bounced between Seattle’s active roster and practice squad multiple times over the last two seasons, appearing in two games total while hauling in one pass for 23 yards last season.

The Seahawks signed tight ends Wes Saxton and Jackson Harris to replace Swoopes and fellow tight end Justin Johnson when they went on the IR.

The team also has Will Dissly, Nick Vannett, Jacob Hollister, Ed Dickson and George Fant capable of playing tight end, so Swoopes’ path to a spot on the 53-man roster looked grim – even before he got hurt.
