Seahawks waive kicker Sam Ficken and LB Emmanuel Beal

The Seattle Seahawks made a pair of roster moves on Friday, releasing kicker Sam Ficken and linebacker Emmanuel Beal.

Ficken was signed just after the season to a reserve/future contract, giving Seattle insurance at the kicker position with Sebastian Janikowski’s future in doubt.

However, the team decided to ink Pro Bowler Jason Myers to a four-year deal, which sealed the fate of Ficken. He’ll now head back out onto the open market after going 3-for-6 on field goals for the Rams over the last two years.

Beal was signed by Seattle as an undrafted free agent in May of last year. He ended up getting placed on injured reserve in September and didn’t appear in a game.

Seattle is set at linebacker with the re-signings of Mychal Kendricks and K.J. Wright, and apparently didn’t think Beal was going to be a factor on special teams.

Beal will now look for his next NFL opportunity after an accomplished career at Oklahoma.
