Seahawks waive defensive tackle Jay-Tee Tiuli

The Seattle Seahawks started the roster trimming ceremony a couple days early, waiving defensive tackle Jay-Tee Tiuli just before Wednesday’s walk-through.

Tiuli is from nearby Federal Way and went to college at Eastern Washington University before going undrafted. He signed with the Seahawks shortly after that, although the emergence of fellow undrafted free agent tackle Bryan Mone overshadowed Tiuli during camp.

Tiuli recorded just two combined tackles during the preseason, appearing in 68 snaps over all three games.

With a defensive line that is expected to feature Poona Ford and veterans Earl Mitchell and Al Woods – not to mention Jarran Reed after he serves his six-game suspension – the Seahawks likely didn’t see any room for Tiuli, who will now get a chance to catch on elsewhere.

The Seahawks roster is down to 88 players. While they could look to add to their roster ahead of Thursday’s preseason finale against the Raiders, the team does have to pare the roster down to 53 by Saturday afternoon – so they could just be getting a head start on that process.
