Seahawks waive 4th-round draft pick Gary Jennings Jr.

The Seattle Seahawks have waived wide receiver Gary Jennings Jr., whom they selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Seahawks drafted three receivers in April — Jennings, DK Metcalf and John Ursua — as a way to combat the retirement of their top wideout, Doug Baldwin.

However, injuries limited Jennings in rookie minicamp and training camp, and he was constantly trying to play catch-up, in both his understanding of the playbook and his rapport with quarterback Russell Wilson.

When he did get opportunities in the preseason, he was never able to take advantage of them.

Despite the lackluster preseason, Jennings was retained during roster cuts. However, even though he has been on the active roster all year, Jennings was a healthy scratch in each of Seattle’s first three games.

With David Moore returning from a shoulder injury, the Seahawks had seven healthy receivers on the active roster, making Jennings expendable.

The Seahawks will no doubt hope he slides through waivers, allowing them to re-sign him to the practice squad.
