Seahawks visited with free agent linebacker/fullback Nick Bellore

The Seattle Seahawks may boast the best linebacker group in franchise history, but that hasn’t stopped coach Pete Carroll and defensive coordinator Ken Norton from looking for even more weapons.

After visiting with a handful of linebacker draft prospects, including TCU’s Ty Summers, the Seahawks recently hosted veteran free agent Nick Bellore, according to NFL Insider Field Yates.

Bellore, 29, is an eight-year NFL veteran who played four years with the Jets and two with the 49ers before spending his last two seasons in Detroit with the Lions.

He has primarily been a special teams player – recording 155 career combined tackles – although 77 of them came in 2016 when he was a starter in San Francisco.

However, after signing with Detroit, Bellore was converted from linebacker to fullback. He was used mostly as a lead blocker, but he did haul in all five of his targets out of the backfield – albeit for only 16 yards.

It’s not clear what exactly Seattle’s interest is in Bellore. They are overloaded with linebackers and don’t currently have a fullback with Tre Madden a free agent, so it’s possible they are looking at him in that role.

Either way, Bellore would give Seattle added depth and an experienced special teamer, something the Seahawks could use after struggling on special teams last season.
